Agriculture & Climate Adaptation
Safeguarding India's agricultural backbone against climate change
Introduction
Agriculture is the foundation of India's economy contributing 16% to the national GDP and employing 46% of the population for 2024-25. As Indian agriculture is climate sensitive, climate stressors like irregular monsoons, droughts, and floods, heat and cold waves impact agricultural output, farmers' income and food security. It also affects soil degradation and water stress significantly.
